(ConservativeHub.com) – Every once in a while, a politician seems to rise above the masses in record time. For example, a little-known politician gave the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. His address was well-received, and it elevated his stature within the Democratic Party. His name was Barack Obama.
A similar situation looks like it might be unfolding with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). He delivered the Republican rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s first speech before a joint session of Congress on April 29.
A massive number of Americans viewed his address and responded with praise. There’s now a lot of talk about Scott being one of the key Republicans to watch as a possible candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. On May 5, The Hill placed his name next to leading contenders like Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), and others.
Republican strategist Jim McLaughlin noted that the thing the public liked most about Scott’s speech was the fact he appeared “so genuine, as a good person.”
There’s a lot of time between now and 2024, and Scott says his only focus is winning his reelection bid next fall. But in the meantime, he’s an interesting figure to keep an eye on.
