American Man Reported Dead in Ukraine

US Citizen Reported DEAD Overseas – He’s Gone

( – Despite the US not officially participating in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, some Americans took it upon themselves to become a part of the Ukrainian resistance. On August 26, the US State Department confirmed the death of a US citizen who was a volunteer soldier in the war-torn country to Newsweek.

Officials declined to offer further details about the man to allow his family privacy. However, a USA Today report said that the deceased had been identified as Joshua Alan Jones by a Russian State outlet and the Norman Brigade.

Newsweek published Telegram posts by Oleg Kozhemyako, a regional governor in Russia, who said the deceased was a 24-year-old male from Tennessee. The official published the man’s US passport and Ukrainian military ID, showing he was part of the A344 unit with an enrollment date of July 24.

Jones was in the Donbas region, where Russians have centered the bulk of their aggression in recent weeks. On August 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the area is nearly completely devastated due to fighting.

Jones’s mother, Misty Gossett, posted on Facebook with a plea to friends and family not to share further details at this time. She indicated that the first priority is to return his body to the US, and “saying the wrong thing could affect this for us.”

Other Americans have also died fighting in Ukraine despite calls from the US government for citizens to leave the country. Some were volunteers fighting alongside the military. But others, like Jimmy Hill, who died while waiting in a food line, and journalist Brent Renaud, who became a victim of the Russian aggression, were war casualties.
