AOC Blames US for Unrest in Cuba

(ConservativeHub.com) – The Cuban people have launched the largest nationwide protests in decades over the tyranny of Cuba’s long-standing Communist regime. The Biden administration conceded last week that “Communism is a failed ideology” and Cubans deserve better. In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) at least partly disagreed with the White House and the Cuban people.

On Thursday, July 15, AOC posted a statement about the Cuban demonstrations on her Twitter account. AOC did speak out against the “anti-democratic actions” taken by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. However, she fell short of blaming him for the failure of Cuba’s government. Instead, she targeted the United States government.

The bulk of AOC’s statement condemned the United States’s trade embargo and its “contribution” to the “Cuban suffering.” According to the New York Democrat, the embargo is “absurdly cruel” and, as is the case for other similar policies, “the cruelty is the point.”

AOC’s statement ended with a demand for the Biden administration to lift the 60-year-old Cuban embargo, adding that it’s never acceptable for the US to use cruelty as leverage against ordinary citizens.

Ocasio-Cortez’s accusations mirror those Black Lives Matter activists made in a statement obtained by POLITICO’s immigration correspondent Sabrina Rodriguez on July 14. Black Lives Matter also praised Cuba’s Communist regime for granting “black revolutionaries” asylum.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted an offer to help Black Lives Matter officials move to Cuba. Perhaps he should extend his offer to include AOC.
