(ConservativeHub.com) – Gina Helsel, a woman in Florida, stated that one night while going to take her puppy out for a walk, she was surprised to see a black bear on her front porch.
Helsel revealed that the incident occurred on Thursday, August 10, and it was caught on film by her Ring video doorbell camera. Helsel told Fox 35 that she had gone to take her dog outside at around 3 a.m. because the Goldendoodle started to bark at something that was outside.
At the time, she had not thought much of it as there were often cats on her porch. She added that she just thought she was going to take him outside for a bit, let him bark at the cats, and then she would be able to sleep the remainder of the night.
However, when she walked outside, she was quite surprised to see a bear in front of her home. She said that she often checks for snakes and alligators, but a bear was not something she expected. Helsel proceeded to go back into her house as soon as she spotted the bear.
According to Fox 35, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) bear program lead manager Mike Orlando has stated that it is likely that the bear had frequently stopped by the woman’s home in the past five years. He added that it is a good practice to not keep trash outside, as it can attract bears who are looking to bulk up ahead of winter. He said that if bears find anything in the trash that is interesting to them, then they will stop by the home for an easy meal.
