Bernie Madoff's Sister Dies Under Stunning Circumstances

( – Almost everyone has heard of Bernie Madoff since his Ponzi scheme rocked the country back in 2008. He’s known for committing one of the biggest Ponzi schemes ever recorded, after which a court sentenced him to 150 years in jail. He made headlines again when he passed away in prison last year at 82. Now, it appears his sister has also passed away, but under shocking and mysterious circumstances.

On Thursday, February 17, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a Boynton Beach, FL, home to find two people dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, though it’s unclear who fired the weapon.

Authorities identified Sondra Wiener (87) in a social media post regarding the crime. They initially named her husband, Marvin Wiener (90), as the second victim before deleting the message and citing Marvin’s family invoking a law for the recall.

According to their son, David, Sondra and her husband were also victims of Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

The medical examiner will make a final determination about the couple’s death. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive, and the family, including the couple’s son and daughter-in-law, is asking for privacy.

If you or anyone you know is dealing with suicidal thoughts, you can reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255).
