Biden Administration Backs Trump-Era Oil Project

Biden Administration Backs Trump-Era Oil Project

( – Joe Biden campaigned on a promise to create a plan for a “clean energy revolution” and to tackle climate change. On his first day in office, he issued an executive order revoking the March 2019 permit to construct and operate the TransCanada Keystone Pipeline.

In a stunning move, attorneys working for Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a brief in federal court supporting a Trump administration Alaskan drilling project on Saturday, May 26.

The Justice Department’s brief opposed a lawsuit filed by environmental groups hoping to halt the project. They claim the drilling project could negatively impact wildlife. They also say it could contribute to global warming.

The brief filed by the Justice Department said the decision to allow the Alaskan drilling was “reasonable and consistent” with legal constraints and should be allowed to move forward.

At best, the decision by Biden administration officials sends a confusing signal to environmentalists. Pipeline construction appears to be a no-no, while the administration embraces new drilling projects. One wonders what this new approach to fossil fuel might mean for progressives’ beloved Green New Deal.
