Biden Makes WILD Claim – Backlash Ensues!

Biden Claims Gas Prices Were More Than $5 When He Took Office

Biden Says Gas Prices Were More Than $5 When He Became President

(ConservativeHub.com) – Lately, few days have gone by when President Joe Biden has not made a false remark about his life, job performance, or current events. Yet, in the latest snafu, he claimed gas prices were over $5 a gallon when he took office in January 2021.

On Thursday, October 27, the POTUS was speaking in Syracuse, New York, about the CHIPS Act, which sends taxpayer money to American manufacturers to make computer chips needed to power various technologies, including computers and cars. During the remarks, Biden praised his job as president, saying that gas prices are now lower than when he took office. Specifically, he claimed most Americans paid “over $5” in January 2021.

However, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas prices on Monday, January 18, 2021, just two days before Biden’s inauguration, averaged $2.379 per gallon.

Biden’s false comments certainly raised eyebrows as he tried to rally support for his ideas and the Democratic party before the midterm elections. The backlash against him was swift, with many taking to social media with criticism. For instance, New York’s 22nd Congressional District Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) called it a “blatant lie” and accused Biden of refusing to take responsibility for his failures. Ted Cruz’s Special Advisor for Communications Steve Guest quipped, “Paging all fact checkers,” in a Tweet sharing Biden’s claims.

While the president’s speech was far from perfect, he did note that the economy grew by 2.6% between July and September, a good sign that the US might still keep a recession at bay. However, with gas prices still elevated and inflation climbing, it’s unknown when Americans will feel any meaningful relief.
