(ConservativeHub.com) – Fox News reported that President Joe Biden’s Justice Department and FBI have been sued by a Catholic lobbying group, which accused them of not complying with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request regarding an FBI office-originated memo in which Catholics were dubbed “violent extremists.”

The lawsuit was reportedly filed by CatholicVote and Judicial Watch on April 27, and it states that the groups have attempted all available options in order to get their FOIA requests fulfilled with the groups following their initial correspondence. They further argued that both the DOJ and the FBI stopped communicating with the group back in early April.

The lawsuit relates to a January internal memo from an FBI Virginia field office, which was reportedly leaked. In the memo, it was noted that ‘radical-traditionalist Catholic[s]’ could become “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists.” The complaint also notes that the groups requested all text and email correspondence between the DOJ and the FBI that included certain terms.

The FOIA request was originally issued back on March 8, and about a week later, the FBI informed CatholicVote and Judicial Watch that “unusual circumstances” stopped it from providing the requested information within the 20-day deadline. Normally, FOIA requests need to receive a response within 20 days, with the option of an another 10 days being granted in special cases. While it’s been almost two months now since the groups first made the request, US authorities have allegedly not yet sent the documents that were requested in that request.
