(ConservativeHub.com) – Following the 2020 presidential election, the issue of election integrity became a major concern across the country. Most notably, Georgia has been in the spotlight for allegations of ballot harvesting throughout the state by Democrats. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger launched an investigation into the matter and is now taking even more action to heighten security at this year’s midterm elections.
On Monday, February 14, Raffensperger held a press conference and issued a press release announcing his support for increasing law enforcement at early voting locations, polling places and the county election offices that process the absentee ballots. The secretary of state said such measures are necessary so “everyone can have confidence in the results.”
Raffensperger also called on Governor Brian Kemp (R) and the State Election Board to join forces to ensure the resources are available to carry out the monitoring.
This is contrary to his previous denials of election fraud when he downplayed the claims of ballot harvesting. However, in January, news outlets reported that Georgia opened an investigation into the claims, with Raffensperger saying he received “credible evidence” that was worth looking into.
Raffensperger himself is up for re-election this year, facing off against state Rep. Jody Hice (R), who lobbied to overturn the 2020 election results amid fraud claims. Analysts expect elections across the nation to be neck and neck this year.
