(ConservativeHub.com) – Many people dream of seeing the unique and bold animals of Africa on an authentic safari trip, but few actually get to experience seeing the incredible creatures up close. Amazingly, for one set of safari-goers, they got all they wanted and more when two cheetahs decided to board their vehicle for a better view.
For years, wildlife photographer Paul Mahagi, 40, dreamed of getting up close and personal with a wild cheetah. Yet, the instances of doing that safely are few and far between. However, while cruising with some other passengers through the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, Mahagi got the chance of a lifetime.
Two cheetahs approached their Land Cruiser and hopped on top of the roof. The spotted cats likely did this for a better vantage point for hunting. As their tails hung down in front of passenger’s noses, Mahagi snapped a video, shared here:
This exquisite scene is becoming rarer and rarer, as the current cheetah population hovers around 7,000, which is under half of the number of cheetahs alive in Africa 30 years ago. Thankfully, as the equally terrifying and fascinating situation concluded with no close calls, it’ll most definitely be one of the most memorable moments from the journey for all those involved.
