British Military Confiscates Missiles Smuggled From Iran

British Navy SEIZES Hundreds of Missiles – Stunning Military Capture!

( – The British Royal Navy announced on July 7 that it seized Iranian-built cruise missiles from smugglers’ speedboats in two different incidents. The operations took place in international waters off Iran earlier in the year. Weapons confiscated would have violated UN Security Council resolution 2216. It marked the first time the UK had intercepted such advanced artillery from Iran.

The Navy explained the seizures happened on January 28 and February 25. A radar system scan from the HMS Montrose’s helicopter picked up the smugglers during an illegal goods check on vessels in the area. The boats were moving away from Iran’s coast at speed when officials intercepted them. The US supported the British Navy during the February interception.

UK weapons analysts determined the multiple packages removed from the vessels contained 358 surface-to-air missiles and 351 land-attack cruise missiles. Such weapons are reportedly part of the artillery the Houthis often use to hit targets in Saudi Arabia.

James Heappey, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, explained the UK remains committed to helping remove threats that could lead to instability in the Middle East, according to the The Iran Primer. Commander Claire Thompson, HMS Montrose Commanding Officer, expressed her pride in her crew and their work helping to keep international waters secure.
