( – Comedian and Actor Russell Brand, 48, has been accused by four women of sexual assault and rape. On Friday, September 15, the actor posted a video on social media denying the allegations and insisting that he has only ever been in “consensual” relationships.

He said that he has received many messages from media companies regarding the “very serious criminal allegations” and that the messages amounted to a “litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks.”

The Sunday Times has reported that the four women who have alleged that Brand assaulted them have claimed that the assaults took place between 2006 and 2013. The Sunday Times, Channel 4 Dispatches, and The Times launched a joint investigation into the allegations.

Brand claimed that this was the time in his career when he was in the “mainstream” industry and that this was a “very promiscuous” time period in his life. Still, he has maintained that all of the relationships he had were completely consensual and that even at the time, he had been completely transparent about that. He added that perhaps both in the past and currently, he was being “too transparent.”

He proceeded to question if there was a different “agenda at play” as his transparency was now being turned into something criminal. Following the rape accusations and the video released by Brand, many other celebrities responded.

One of the women who alleged she was assaulted by Brand has stated that the incident took place against the wall of his Los Angeles home. She has also alleged that on the day of the incident, he sought treatment from a rape crisis center.

Following the allegations, YouTube suspended Brand’s ability to monetize his content on the platform.
