(ConservativeHub.com) – Following the discovery of classified documents in former VP Mike Pence’s home, the House GOP may have a harder time weaponizing President Joe Biden’s classified documents case.

On Tuesday, Pence’s team disclosed that after a search of Pence’s home in Indiana around a dozen documents with classified documents had been found. As they noted, the search stems from the recent revelation that many classified documents had been discovered in Biden’s home and former private office in Washington, D.C.

Previously, Republicans in Congress had been trying to use the case against Biden and to show that he was not careful enough with sensitive information. However, now that Pence has a very similar case to Biden, where documents were discovered and handed over to the National Archives and Justice Department, the political consequences may be smaller, as noted by Reuters. A report from NBC News pointed out that the reveal may also work out in favor of former president Donald Trump, who has been under scrutiny for his handling of classified materials as well.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told reporters that while he did not know what had happened yet, he was committed to helping get to the bottom of the case. He also added that he did not believe that Mike Pence had intentionally sought to cause national security concerns.

According to Reuters, Graham added that what had previously only been a “political problem for Republicans is now a national security problem for the country.”

Pence’s attorney, Greg Jacob, had informed the National Archives of the document discovery on Jan. 18. The documents had been discovered two days prior and they were handed over one day later along with two boxes of material.

The FBI officially took possession of the boxes on Jan. 19.
