(ConservativeHub.com) – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt gained significant attention after a video of a crowd at a 2024 campaign event for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went viral. Stitt became the first US governor to publicly declare his endorsement of DeSantis in the presidential race.
During the campaign event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, June 10, Stitt took the stage to show his support for DeSantis. In his speech, Stitt expressed that “Oklahomans love Ron DeSantis,” which elicited a subdued but approving response from the audience. After a brief pause, Stitt went on to say, “Let’s get an ‘Amen,’ brother,” resulting in a louder chorus of “amen” from the crowd.
A clip capturing this moment was initially shared on Twitter, prompting comparisons between this incident and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s well-known “please clap” remark during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Jackson Lahmeyer, a former candidate for the Oklahoma Senate and the founder of Pastors4Trump, commented on the video by noting that the crowd remained silent when Stitt claimed that Oklahoma loved DeSantis. Lahmeyer claimed that Oklahoma would vote for Trump in the 2024 election. His tweet featuring Stitt’s remarks had gained over 300,000 views on Twitter as of June 16.
Ron Filipkowski, an attorney and former federal prosecutor, also shared the clip, mockingly urging people to “please” and “pretty please” applaud for DeSantis. Another user suggested that this incident would become the equivalent of the “please clap” moment for DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign.
Stitt had previously endorsed Trump for the 2024 election but switched sides to endorse DeSantis just before the Tulsa rally. Trump and DeSantis are currently the GOP candidates with the most support, according to recent polls, with Trump currently taking the lead despite the criminal cases against him. Time will tell how the primary race unfolds over the next year.
