D.C. Mayor Adds New COVID Restrictions for Weddings

(ConservativeHub.com) – Planning a wedding can be stressful at the best of times. Arranging one during a national health emergency makes it even more difficult, particularly for couples wanting to tie the knot in Washington, DC.

The District’s Democratic Mayor, Muriel Bowser, recently released modified restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Effective on May 1, attendees at multi-purpose facilities used for weddings and other special events must remain seated, and “standing and dancing receptions” are prohibited.

A spokesperson from the mayor’s office said it put the bans in place to provide “an extra layer of safety” because people’s “behavior changes” when standing or dancing.

As one might expect, the pushback was swift. Local news station Fox 5 spoke to Jillian Harig, a bride who scheduled her wedding for July in DC. She said she felt the restrictions represented a backward step when the country should be looking forward to life post-pandemic. She also suggested having guests wear masks, provide a negative COVID test, or show proof of vaccination before hitting the dance floor.

Other states, like Michigan and Illinois, have similar restrictions. However, New Jersey and New York have recently eased their limitations on dancing. Perhaps Mayor Bowser should consult with them.
