(ConservativeHub.com) – On May 11, Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, attacked the GOP-supported immigration legislation while using a picture that was captured during the Obama administration, while President Biden was serving as the then-vice president. In the photo there were unaccompanied minors, and an old report from The Columbus Dispatch indicates that the photo dates as far back as early 2014.

Garcia displayed an enlarged version of the image during her speech on the House floor where she opposed the Secure the Border Act of 2023. In the post, there was also the statement: “House Republicans’ child deportation act is extreme and wrong.”

However, as the article from the Columbus Dispatch, published in June 2014 reveals, the photo is of caged migrant children with foil blankets, during the Obama administration. The image was specifically used to draw awareness to the “stations’ crowded conditions.”

Garcia, during her speech against the Republican bill, argued that the bill did not secure the border in any way and that it would worsen the situation. She added that currently there are asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and families, all of whom are trying to escape from hunger, poverty, and violence.

Garcia’s opposition to the immigration bill is not the first time that the two parties have clashed on topics of immigration. In the past few years, Democrats have been quick to attack the Republicans on many of the different issues relating to immigration, while members of the GOP have been heavily critical of the Biden administration’s approach.

Earlier this month, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the GOP was to blame for the “chaotic” situation at the border because they refused to cooperate.
