(ConservativeHub.com) – Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.) remarked during a press conference on Friday that he wasn’t ruling out the possibility of voting to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas over the construction of two border walls along the southern border. This is not the same reasoning that GOP members have for potentially impeaching Mayorkas, The Hill reported.

Republicans have repeatedly criticized both Mayorkas along with the Biden administration for the high influx of undocumented immigrants who have been crossing through the southern border. However, Vargas said that if he were to vote in favor of Mayorkas being impeached, it would be because of the border walls being constructed at San Diego’s Friendship Park.

The park found near the Pacific Ocean, right between Dan Diego and Tijuana Mexico. Vargas has previously claimed that the construction of the border wall in the area needed to be stopped. Vargas specifically said that Mayorkas had told them that he would assist in blocking the construction, but so far he had allegedly not done anything to help.

According to U.S. Border Patrol officials, the current barriers in the area have been decaying over the years and are now considered to be a danger for agents, people in the region, and migrants. This is reportedly the reason for the need to replace the barriers with new walls.

However, Vargas, the representative of that area in the House along with some other lawmakers, has expressed concerns about how the wall would block public access to the area. The construction of the wall began in recent weeks and is expected to finish in the next six months, according to an outlet run by Nexstar.
