(ConservativeHub.com) – Democrats seem willing to go to any extreme to push their various legislative proposals through a grid-locked Senate without any Republican support. They used a legislative device called budget reconciliation to pass Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill. Now, they are expected to use an obscure 1996 law to restore methane emission standards reversed by Donald Trump.
Several Democrats have indicated their intention to introduce a bill reinstating the Obama-era regulations targeting gas and oil operations, according to a March 25 report by Reuters. The New York Times reported on March 24 that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is expected to invoke the Congressional Review Act to push through this legislation.

Invoking the act allows Democrats to reverse any regulations finalized within 60 legislative days from the end of a president’s term in office. Reuters reported on March 25 that several Democrats had indicated their intention to introduce a bill reversing Trump’s regulation. Unfortunately, Senate action would fall within the time mandated by the Congressional Review Act.
With the Senate deadlocked at 50/50, Democrats are also considering altering the rules around the legislative filibuster. One wonders where this will all end.
