(ConservativeHub.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is preparing to join the presidential race as early as mid-May, according to four GOP members with ties to the situation.

NBC News reported that according to one person, DeSantis would start off with an exploratory committee and would launch a presidential campaign after that. However, some supporters are reportedly pushing for him to make his announcement around May 11. Apparently, this is due to concerns about Trump being touted as the most likely frontrunner for the nomination. While there have been some mixed opinions regarding exactly when DeSantis should declare his candidacy, but all the sources reportedly agreed that mid-May was the plan.

While Trump has taken the lead in a number of polls in recent months, DeSantis has often been considered his strongest competitor. According to NBC, he has recently spent quite a bit of time traveling to different places in the country. His poll results and some of his actions, however, have resulted in some people questioning whether he is truly ready to join the presidential race.

An immediate launch from DeSantis would also take away some of the anxiety in his base, with many worrying that the longer DeSantis takes to join the race the more likely he will be to miss his moment. This week, national political vendors moved to Tallahassee, with one Florida Republican operative claiming that it seems like a “team that is staffing up, not scaling down.”
