DHS Reportedly Planning to Close Gaps in Border Barrier

New BORDER Measures?! – DHS Makes Stunning Decision

(ConservativeHub.com) – Over the past few years, the US-Mexico border has seen an overwhelming number of immigrants attempt to cross it, both legally and illegally. The latter creates quite an issue for perimeter communities struggling to stop the flow of sex and drug traffickers and human smugglers bringing people across the desert. Finally, after much urging, the Biden Administration agreed to finish a small part of the wall that could make a huge difference.

On Thursday, July 28, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) announced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed it would finish the border wall near Yuma, Arizona, where there are currently four large gaps allowing migrants through. This announcement came a few months after Kelly grilled DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the failing perimeter protection during a congressional hearing.

The timing also lined up with senatorial campaigns in the state. While Kelly is hoping to win another term, he’s facing strong opposition from GOP contenders like retired Air Force Major General Mick McGuire, a strong voice for increased security in the state. It’s vital to note that in this case, both sides of the aisle have called for changes to the border wall in the state.

DHS will award the construction contract to a company this fall, hopefully providing essential security to Yuma, other boundary communities, and migrants by the end of 2023.
