(ConservativeHub.com) – According to a Morning Consult Poll, former President Trump appears to be leading in a hypothetical GOP primary match-up against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

The newest poll suggests that 48 percent of Republican voters would support Trump in the primary while only 31 percent would choose to support DeSantis. This is a big change from a number of polls after the 2022 midterm election, since at the time, many polls showed DeSantis proving to be a match for Trump, according to a report from The Hill.

The rest of the Republicans surveyed in the poll were divided among a number of candidates. Eight percent had said they would support former Vice President Mike Pence, while 3 percent supported former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). Finally, diplomat and politician Nikki Haley and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) were supported by just 2 percent of participants.

In recent weeks, about half of the participants in the Morning Consult surveys have shown support for Trump, while DeSantis typically gets 30 percent of support.

Those who said they would support Trump were also asked who they would support if Trump was not running. DeSantis gained 44 percent of Trump voters’ support, while Pence received 20 percent, and Cruz trailed behind them with 7 percent.

In a similar question, DeSantis voters said that Trump would be their alternate choice. Pence comes up next, with 14 percent saying they would accept him as a second option.

Notably, Trump and DeSantis both had relatively high favorability ratings this time around, with the former president sitting at 77 percent, while DeSantis had a rating of nearly 70 percent.
