Ex-Gubernatorial Candidate Indicted on Fraud Charges

Former Democratic Candidate INDICTED – Massive Fraud Reported

(ConservativeHub.com) – Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ former opponent, Andrew Gillum (D), is facing federal charges for making false statements, wire fraud, and conspiracy. The Department of Justice announced on June 22 that Gillum, a former Florida mayor, faces 21 counts related to an alleged fundraising scheme. He maintains his innocence on all charges.

The grand jury indictment states Gillum participated in fraudulent activities from 2016 to 2019. The former gubernatorial candidate allegedly worked with his mentor, Sharon Lettman-Hicks, to solicit funds by claiming they were for campaign purposes. The pair reportedly used the funds for personal use and falsified records to make the money look like payroll expenses.

This indictment isn’t Gillum’s first brush with the law. He has also had a very public situation where he was in a hotel room with a male escort who had overdosed on illicit drugs.

In a statement, the former mayor claimed he has run his campaigns “with integrity.” He asserted the case against him is political, and he has a target on his back for trying to stand up for the people of Florida. Gillum confidently stated he would prove his innocence.

Gillum was a rising figure in Florida’s Democratic party until the hotel scandal. He’s stayed out of the public eye recently. In the 2018 election, he lost to DeSantis by only 30,000 votes.
