Experts Weigh in As Americans Evacuate From Ukraine

( – After President Joe Biden’s botched the US departure from Afghanistan, Americans are looking cautiously at the growing tension between Ukraine and Russia. The US State Department has already ordered families of US embassy workers to leave the Ukrainian embassy, and experts are urging others to evacuate as well.

On Wednesday, January 26, the embassy in Ukraine issued a message to American citizens, recommending they take commercial flights out of the nation as quickly as possible. The release called the situation “unpredictable” and emphasized it could “deteriorate with little notice.”

David Kramer, who is the former Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, explained that getting Americans and allies out of Afghanistan was a chaotic last-minute effort. He added that the US is trying to avoid having that scenario play out again. Fox News shared more about the developing situation on Twitter:

The US advises all Americans to leave the nation to avoid another catastrophe like what happened in Afghanistan, where the military left a number of Americans without a way to get out of the country now run by the Taliban. Nathan Sales, the acting former ambassador-at-large and coordinator for counterterrorism, echoed Kramer’s comments and asserted the federal government does not want “more headlines about how the administration failed a second time and left Americans stranded.”

Sales says that as of now, only Russian President Vladimir Putin knows what’s next for Ukraine and the likely conflict there. Understandably, many experts have confirmed it’s wise for Americans to leave the area now, although some criticized the move as seeming weak or like a retreat. Yet, after the Afghanistan debacle, it’s not surprising Biden wants Americans to evacuate as soon as possible.
