(ConservativeHub.com) – Fox 13 Tampa reported that a Southwest flight meant to be arriving at Tampa International ended up rerouting to Fort Lauderdale due to how low the plane had been flying around four miles away from the tarmac. The report stated that the plane was within 150 feet of the Court Campbell Causeway when at that distance, it should have been flying around 1,000 feet from the ground.
A Southwest Airlines spokesperson said in an email that Southwest Flight 425 had been safely rerouted on July 14. The aircraft ended up returning to Tampa shortly after landing in Fort Lauderdale.
The air traffic control call from the flight includes the moment where a technician called the pilot encouraging him to check his altitude due to how low they were flying. The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident, and it is unclear why the flight had been diverted to Fort Lauderdale Airport.
In a statement with Fox News Digital, the FAA noted that it has increased oversight over the airline in order to ensure that all federal safety regulations are being followed.
A retired pilot by the name of Kent Davis told Fox 13 Tampa that he believes the error was made by a pilot, and questioned how they had ended up at 150 feet when there should have been several warnings on the aircraft. He expressed his belief that they had either started their descent from the wrong location or something had malfunctioned.
Southwest Airlines shared a statement in which they noted that there was nothing more important to them than the Safety of their Customers and Employees.
