The late comedian passed away at the hospital due to recurrent ventricular tachycardia caused by myotonic dystrophy type II. Ventricular tachycardia is an abnormally fast heart rhythm that, in this case, developed due to type II muscular dystrophy that specifically weakened the actor’s muscles and organs.
Inside Edition shared a clip honoring Gottfried along with his historic career:
Gottfried’s voice was particularly memorable and strongly influenced his career, winning him the parts of the mischievous parrot Iago in Disney’s original “Aladdin” movie and the business manager Sidney Bernstein in “Beverly Hills Cop II.” Fans worldwide will surely miss the actor who first appeared on the New York City comedy scene in the 1970s. From his time on “Saturday Night Live” to the more recent bits on “Comedy Central Roast,” the world will miss several laughs without Gottfried.
