(ConservativeHub.com) – The FBI has faced serious scrutiny recently regarding agent conduct and its handling of cases. Now, it’s facing more examination in the wake of a recent internal Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation.
On July 14, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz announced the release of his office’s long-awaited report detailing the FBI’s handling of allegations regarding former USA Gymnastics physician Lawrence Nassar. His report detailed several serious problems with the FBI’s handling of the case, which allowed Nassar to continue abusing victims for months.
At least 40 girls and women said they were molested over a 14-month period while the FBI was aware of other sexual abuse allegations involving former USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar. https://t.co/lJYsdgagcH

Specific findings in the report included:
- Details surrounding the Indianapolis FBI Field Office’s violation of “numerous FBI policies” regarding documentation of the case as well as the failure to transfer information regarding allegations to state and local authorities,
- Allegations that the Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge (SAC) W. Jay Abbott and an unnamed Supervisory Special Agent made several false statements when drafting interview summaries, and
- Additional allegations Abbott violated FBI conflict of interest policies for attempting to negotiate a job with the US Gymnastics Committee during the FBI’s investigation.
Nassar is currently serving a combined total of roughly 300 years for convictions in multiple jurisdictions. With any luck, the FBI will tighten up its field operation in Indianapolis and take a look at other operations in light of the findings of this report.
