(ConservativeHub.com) – Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who was a top aide for Melania Trump in the past, said that the former first lady opted not to attend Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York City because she is considering her “own optics.”

On Tuesday, May 28, Grisham told CNN’s Erin Burnett that she was not surprised that Melania Trump had opted not to attend the trial at the Manhattan courthouse. According to her, the Trump family is very “focused on optics.”

There have been a few Trump family members who showed up to support him during the trial, but two notable absences have been Melania Trump and Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump. The trial went on for about seven weeks before Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts against him.

Grisham continued by stating that both Ivanka and Melania were considering their optics and that she did not believe that their showing up would do anything for them apart from leading to even “more speculation.”

On Tuesday, during the closing arguments, Trump was joined by three of his children: Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump. His son-in-law, Michael Boulos, and daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, were both in attendance at the trial as well. Several Republicans also attended the trial in support of Trump during the proceedings.

Grisham said this week ahead of jury deliberations that she believed Trump and his campaign had asked Melania Trump to attend. However, she remained absent and has so far not publicly commented on the guilty verdict.
