Settlement Reached in Gabby Petito Family Case
(ConservativeHub.com) – Gabby Petito went missing in the summer of 2021 while on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. After weeks of searching, investigators found her body in Wyoming on September 19. Laundrie, the prime suspect in her death, had disappeared, but searchers found his body and a journal in which he confessed to killing his fiancĂ©e. Petito’s family sued the parents of their daughter’s killer for wrongful death, and they finally reached a settlement.
On Thursday, November 17, the courts made public a settlement for one particular court case between the Petitos and Laundries, showing the suing family will receive $3 million from the defendants. According to Fox News, the plaintiff’s lawyer called the cash “an arbitrary number,” emphasizing that anything they get will “help Gabby’s family in their endeavors with the Gabby Petito Foundation.”

The Petitos based their lawsuit on their allegation that Brian Laundrie’s parents knew their son had killed Gabby, and they kept that information from the police. The claimants believe the hidden knowledge slowed the investigation and caused additional stress and emotional pain for their family. The Petitos also filed a civil lawsuit against the Laundries and an action against the Moab Police Department because officers failed to recognize danger signs when they handled a dispute between the couple before Gabby’s disappearance.
The Petitos plan to use awards from suits to fund the Gabby Petito Foundation, established in October 2021, to support groups searching for missing persons, particularly those dealing with domestic violence.
