Ghislaine Maxwell's Trial Finally Kicks Off

( – The name Jeffery Epstein is practically synonymous with pedophile and sex trafficker these days. Now, his long-time girlfriend and potential partner in crime, Ghislaine Maxwell, faces trial for her potential role in procuring underage women for illegal sexual acts with Epstein and others. The long-awaited trial started this week.

On Monday, November 29, the disgraced Maxwell walked into a New York City courtroom to face multiple charges of enticing minors to travel to participate in sexual acts, sex trafficking, and grooming and recruiting underage girls for Epstein. US District Judge Alison J. Nathan swore in 18 jurors to hear the case and emphasized to the jury that they’re “triers of fact” and must only use “evidence provided in the courtroom” to make their final decision.

As federal cases do not allow cameras in the courtroom, NPR prepared to share trial updates on Twitter:

Experts believe this trial will last around six weeks, and Maxwell could face a prison sentence of up to 35 years if she’s found guilty of the crimes. While opening arguments just kicked off, the coming weeks will likely unveil new revelations, insights, and information into the horrific acts of both Jeffery Epstein and Maxwell.
