(ConservativeHub.com) – Joe Biden campaigned on a series of promises to reverse many of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. He signed five presidential actions targeting immigration on his first day in office. However, it appears he may have bitten off more than he can chew with his order to halt the construction of the border wall.
A group of 40 Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), sent a letter to the Government Accounting Office (GAO) on March 17 asking for an investigation into Biden’s proclamation ending border wall construction.

The letter accused Biden of committing a “blatant violation” of the 1974 Impoundment Control Act, which forbids executive branch members from refusing to spend money allocated for projects by Congress. The latest fiscal bill, passed in December 2020, included $1.4 billion in funds for the border wall and related spending measures.
The letter’s author, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), calls on Comptroller General Gene Dodaro to investigate the issue and provide a professional opinion on whether Biden’s proclamation violated the 1974 law.
It appears Joe Biden may learn a lesson about the limitations on his power regarding executive actions.
