(ConservativeHub.com) – Republicans who have rushed to former President Donald Trump’s defense recently have now taken a new approach by threatening to defund the one investigating him, according to NBC News.

For the past few years, GOP members and Trump himself have attacked Democrats for calling for supporting the “defund the police” movement which is trying to focus on community service for crime reduction rather than focusing on traditional policing. The Republicans have been successful in pushing against this movement, and when he was running for president in 2020, President Joe Biden even went as far as to call for an increase in federal spending for law enforcement.

However, now that the country is waiting for a possible indictment of Trump in connection to the case of the hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign, House Republicans have threatened to pull funds from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Republicans are reportedly searching for a way to weaken prosecutors who have had the support of George Soros.

Reps. Reps. James Comer, R-KY, Jim Jordan, R-OH, and Bryan Steil, R-WI, reached out to Bragg on March 2020. They said that the “politically motivated prosecution” of Trump at a time when “progressive criminal justice policies” have allowed crime to run rampant in Manhattan requires further scrutiny by Congress to determine that public safety funds are used properly by law-enforcement agencies. The three GOP members are the chairs of the Oversight, Judiciary, and Administration committees, and have called for Bragg to provide testimony as well as hand over the communications that have taken place before his office and federal authorities.
