GOP Senators Demand Explanation for Gen. Mark Milley Allegations

(ConservativeHub.com) – Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Robert Costa have started dropping off excerpts from their upcoming novel “Peril” at all the major media outlets. Slated for release on September 21, the book discusses the transition from the presidency of Donald Trump to that of Joe Biden. The book describes it as “one of the most dangerous periods” in the nation’s history.

One section of the book, in particular, has caught the attention of the mainstream media and Republican legislators. It details two conversations that reportedly took place between Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his Chinese counterpart.

Leading Republicans like Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are demanding an explanation from Milley regarding the substance and reason for those calls. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is demanding Milley take a lie detector test and face dismissal and a court-martial if what the book purports he said is true.

According to Woodward and Costa, Milley spoke with Gen. Li Zuocheng days before the 2020 presidential election after he supposedly heard China had raised concerns about a possible strike from the United States. The excerpts claim Milley promised to call Zuocheng and give him a heads-up if Trump decided to launch an attack.

Excerpts from the book also say Milley followed up with a second call two days after the January 6 riot at the US Capitol Building. He supposedly assured the Chinese general the USA was “100% steady” but that “democracy can [get] sloppy” at times.

In response to the allegations, Milley stepped forward and claimed that the calls he made were “perfectly within the duties” of his post. However, it’s unclear whether or not that will be enough to satisfy those calling for his resignation.
