GOP Unveils New Plan to Fund Border States

(ConservativeHub.com) – The crisis at the nation’s southern border continues its downward trajectory, and it’s no small wonder. While the Biden administration is scurrying about, blocking Cuban refugees from entering the United States by sea, it seems content to let migrants continue to flow across the US/Mexico border with impunity.

The Republican Study Committee (RSC), the House Republican’s conservative caucus, unveiled its plan to introduce an alternative bill to the Biden administration’s proposed Homeland Security funding measure to Fox News on Wednesday, July 21.

The RSC bill will provide additional funding to border states seeking to prioritize border security measures and the completion of former President Donald Trump’s effort to erect an expansive wall at the US/Mexico border.

The affected states include Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas. Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX) sponsored the measure, which includes $22 billion in funds for block grants to be distributed during the fiscal year 2022 to those states, provided they certify their intent to use the money for border wall construction.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), the RSC head, may have put it best when he said he believed protecting the nation’s borders using Congress’ power of the purse is “a hill to die on” in a memorandum obtained by Fox News.
