(ConservativeHub.com) – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has suggested that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump would not be “hurt” by taking a cognitive test. This comment comes after the latest concerns relating to Biden’s cognitive health stemming from last month’s presidential debate.
In an interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip, Whitmer was asked whether Biden should take a cognitive test and whether former President Donald Trump should be pushed to do the same. Whitmer’s response was that she didn’t believe it would “hurt.”
Concerns regarding Biden’s cognitive abilities did not only grow after the debate but also after the recent reports that the White House had been visited by a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease. The administration clarified, however, that the physician has been a long-standing consultant in the medical unit of the White House.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley have both been pushing for cognitive testing, with Haley suggesting that cognitive tests should be mandatory for older politicians.
Despite Biden’s heavily scrutinized performance in the latest debate, Whitmer defended the President, saying that he continues to work in service of the American people. She indicated that Biden has been committed to public service while calling out Trump’s legal troubles and accusing him of only thinking of himself.
Whitmer, a national co-chair for the Biden-Harris reelection campaign, has been considered a possible replacement candidate if Biden chose to withdraw from the presidential race by a number of news outlets. However, Biden has strongly pushed back against the idea of dropping out.
Whitmer has reaffirmed her support for the President as the nominee of the party. She also indicated that she would not rule out the possibility of being Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate if Harris were to become the candidate.
