Harvey Weinstein Case Delayed After Latest Development

(ConservativeHub.com) – You usually hear about people trying to break out of prison. Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein seems to be pulling out all the stops to remain incarcerated in a prison located in western New York.

Weinstein has been serving a 23-year sentence at Wende Correctional Facility since his March 2020 conviction for rape and sexual abuse. He currently faces extradition to Los Angeles on 11 counts of similar charges alleged by 5 victims.

Since April, his lawyer has been attempting to prevent Weinstein’s return to California using a series of motions highlighting alleged clerical errors on the extradition order. On Monday, May 24, Weinstein succeeded in pushing off extradition until a hearing on the latest motion concludes.

His lawyers also argue it’s in Weinstein’s best interest to remain at the Wende Correctional Facility due to the treatment he’s receiving there for ongoing medical issues.

Los Angeles prosecutors charged Weinstein in January 2020, but extradition has been delayed numerous times due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The New York judge overseeing his case scheduled his next hearing for June 15.
