Hong Kong Reportedly Separating Children From Parents Over COVID

(ConservativeHub.com) – Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, China has had a zero-COVID policy, meaning authorities isolated anyone infected until they recovered. The country isolated itself internationally for two years to keep the virus from spreading to its citizens.

However, the Omicron variant managed to make its way to Hong Kong, which was woefully unprepared for the breakout. Now, the hospital systems are overwhelmed, and China is reportedly taking devastating action regarding sick children.

In Hong Kong, parents of hospitalized children are finding themselves in the awful predicament of having to leave their children alone to get the care they need. In many cases, hospital staff members are refusing to let the parents stay, even for infants, citing overcapacity concerns.

A Hong Kong Hospital Authority official, Lau Ka-hin, confirmed that hospitals are separating the children at least temporarily, saying, “It takes time for our staff to arrange the suitable place for them.”

Because of this, some worried parents are turning to social media for advice instead of immediately seeking medical care. They say calls to health officials go unanswered, and they’re scared to leave children alone for days while they receive treatment.

Do you think Hong Kong is right to separate children from their parents when they need them the most?
