(ConservativeHub.com) – On Wednesday, House Republicans voted to have Rep. Ilhan Omar removed from her assignment on the Foreign Affairs Committee. This is only the latest removal of Democratic members from their committee since the Republicans took control of the House, according to a report from Newsweek.

The Democrats had lobbied extensively to keep Omar on the panel but had been unsuccessful in their efforts. This is the third official removal of a Democratic committee member from their assignment since Rep. McCarthy became the House Speaker in January. Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell were both recently removed from their seats on the House Intelligence Committee. Schiff was previously a part of the investigation of Russia and Former President Donald Trump’s campaign, and he was accused of lying about it. Meanwhile, Swalwell had been under scrutiny over his connections to a suspected Chinese spy.

McCarthy has so far been able to get the necessary votes for the removal of Democratic members from their assignments, despite the fact that he only managed to win the Speakership after the 15th ballot. McCarthy had pledged early on that Omar would be removed from her seat if he became the Speaker of the House.

McCarthy had repeatedly stated that Omar would be removed from the House if he won, because of the anti-semitic and anti-American remarks that she had previously made. This was a promise that McCarthy had reiterated two weeks after the midterm election took place in a tweet.

Omar has been a vocal critic of Israel and has previously said that the GOP’s support of Israel is the result of donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Omar made these comments in 2019 and has since repeatedly apologized. She has further claimed that she has sought more information about Judaism.
