( – House Republicans have officially started their probes into the Biden administration with hearings relating to both the border crisis and heavy spending, according to The Hill. The hearings started last week with a presentation of the Republicans’ case which is widely considered to be a preview of what is expected to come in the coming years.

However, the Republicans are not the only ones gearing up, as the Democrats have made it clear that they plan to be aggressive in their response to the GOP-led investigations.

The House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comes (R-KY), also started with its first hearing that dealt with wasteful spending, cases of fraud, and more.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of The House Judiciary Committee, opened with a hearing that was called “The Biden Border Crisis: Part I.” House Republicans have long promised that they would launch investigations into the Biden administration’s border policies which have led to an escalation in the immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. The panel also pointed out how frequent references to the unsecured border because of the border policies have been and noted that the unsecured border has led to an increase in illegal drugs and fentanyl entering the country.

Over the last fiscal year, there were around 2.4 million encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border, with 250,000 encounters in December alone, according to US Customs and Border Protection data reported by The Hill. These are the highest numbers of encounters during a year in any administration.

However, the outlet notes that Democrats have long argued that the situation at the border is not caused solely by President Biden’s policies.
