Officials from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office explained the report came in after 12:30 pm. The initial statements indicated Schmucker’s car had crossed the center line and collided with Walorski’s vehicle. But on August 4, investigators released new findings showing the Congresswoman’s SUV was the one to leave its lane first.
Walorski had been serving the 2nd Congressional district since 2012. She also had a lengthy political career prior to that, serving three terms in state government. The Indiana native was well-liked among her colleagues and known for her friendly personality. Many Congress members spoke about her after hearing the news. Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) released a statement on Twitter honoring his friend.
