Iran Tried to Kidnap Business Travelers Through Social Media, Investigators Find

(ConservativeHub.com) – We often hear of the dangers that strangers on the internet can pose. A perfect case in point is a stunning report published on April 12 detailing Iranian efforts to kidnap or harm Israeli citizens using fake profiles on social media platforms.

Shin Bet, Israel’s national security agency, and the Mossad reported that Iranian intelligence services used sites like Instagram to contact Israeli citizens traveling abroad.

Iranian agents have allegedly tried to lure unsuspecting travelers into coordinating in-person meetings using photographs of attractive women for business or romantic encounters. When they arrived at the meeting place, the travelers would end up kidnapped, or worse.

Israeli security officials are alerting individuals with overseas business ties to be extra cautious of any contacts made on social media sites from people they don’t know.

When it comes to using social media, it’s always best to err on the side of caution. Avoid giving out personal information to individuals you haven’t met.
