Alex Jones in HOT WATER – Jury Reaches Shocking Verdict!
(ConservativeHub.com) – Infowars founder Alex Jones has been in court in Texas fighting a lawsuit against him over his claims that the Sandy Hook school shooting was fake. Parents of 6-year-old victim Jesse Lewis said the defendant’s statements led to his followers harassing and threatening them. On August 4, the jury decided in favor of the plaintiffs, awarding $4.1 million in compensatory damages. They returned to the courthouse on August 5 to consider potential punitive damages, awarding $45.2 million.

Compensatory damages repay plaintiffs for the harm they suffer, in this case, due to Jones’ actions. “Punitive” damages, on the other hand, are punishment for wrongful conduct, so the next phase of jury deliberations determined how to penalize the Infowars host.
Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis had asked the court to make the defendant pay $150 million. While the compensatory award falls far below that, Jill Huntley Taylor, a trial consultant, explained to Reuters the jury might agree to a much higher amount for punitive damages. She noted punishment is often much worse when jurors become upset with the defendant and allow their feelings to motivate their decision. Punitive damages in Texas are subject to a cap, information court officers didn’t relay to the jurors before their decision. The judge could ultimately decide to lower the punitive award.
The parents asked the jury to compensate them for the hurt caused by Jones, who continually stated a gunman killing 20 students and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, was an event staged by anti-gun groups and the government. They said they’ve endured needless trauma beyond that directly related to the loss of their son.
Jones admitted in court that what he said was false. But he maintained the defense he was exercising his First Amendment rights and wasn’t responsible for what others had done to the plaintiffs.
