(ConservativeHub.com) – On Friday, May 12, Vice President Kamala Harris went to a fundraiser event in Atlanta, Georgia, less than a day after Title 42 came to an end. During her early days in office, President Joe Biden put her in charge of addressing the immigration problems that have been plaguing the United States.

During a spring soirée in Buckhead put together by Georgia’s Democrats, Harris didn’t mention  anything regarding immigration in her 20-minute speech. The event took place at a time when the U.S.-Mexico border had been flooded with immigrants in anticipation of the end of Title 42, a public health order that allowed authorities at the border to expel immigrants without having to go through the normal asylum process.

Instead of immigration, Harris’ remarks focused on abortion, democracy, and infrastructure. As she stated in her speech, they would fight for Democracy which is a founding principle of the U.S.

Harris was then asked to provide comments on the Georgia Republicans’ statement about Harris’ visit being “deplorable” at a time when the crisis at the border was ongoing and inflation has been through the roof. In response, Harris stated that from what she heard everything has been going “smoothly” in the past few days. She then proceeded to place the responsibility on Congress and say that they need to step up and implement immigration reforms.

In an interview with host Margaret Brennan on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” Mayorkas  also argued that currently, the Department of Homeland Security was doing the best it could in a broken system and that it would be up to Congress to pass reforms.
