Lawmaker Steps Down After Confessing to Shocking Affair

( – For most couples, an affair remains private and quiet. Yet, when an affair involves a public figure, it is much more difficult to keep it confidential. An indiscretion recently made headlines and now is causing repercussions for a US representative from Texas.

Representative Van Taylor (R-TX) removed himself from his runoff election on March 2 after news broke he had an extramarital affair with a woman who, according to reports, was formerly married to a member of ISIS. The announcement came just one day after he received about 49% of the vote in a five-way primary, missing the win by only 1%.

Tania Joya, the former wife of an ISIS fighter, spoke with Breitbart about the affair she says started in November 2020 and ended in June 2021. She showed a bank statement as evidence the representative paid her $5,000, hush money she claims. Joya said Taylor messaged her obsessively when they were together, but she said she felt he threatened her not to make the affair public the last time they spoke.

Taylor sent out an email confirming the reports of his affair. He admitted it was a mistake and caused his loved ones immense pain. He called it his “greatest failure” and apologized to his wife and daughters.
