(ConservativeHub.com) – Lawmakers are preparing to potentially launch an investigation into the President Joe Biden administration’s handling of the suspected Chinese spy balloon and what has been perceived as a failure to protect national security.

The balloon was first spotted on Wednesday and was allowed to continue flying over the U.S. for a few days before it was shot down off the coast of South Carolina. So far, House Republicans have not yet announced an official investigation. Still, they are hoping to question the administration about the matter, according to The Hill.

Reportedly, Biden had ordered for the balloon to be shot down during his first briefing on Wednesday. However, military officials noted that due to the location of the balloon, shooting it down could be dangerous due to the potential of falling debris damaging properties and even injuring or killing people. As a result, they waited until the balloon was in a safer location before shooting it down.

The incident has caused tension between the United States and China, as China had maintained that the balloon was simply used for weather reporting and it had accidentally left its normal path.

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), has said that it was very concerning to see the Biden administration allow a potential spy balloon to travel across the United States. He added that this is just further proof of the “weakness” of this administration.

The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. McCaul (R-Texas), also expressed concern over the Biden administration not dealing immediately with the balloon which could be a big potential “national security threat,” according to a statement. He also called the administration’s actions an “embarrassing display of weakness.”
