(ConservativeHub.com) – The Democrats managed to score an impressive win in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 4, which has helped energize the party’s efforts in the battleground state, according to The Hill.

Liberal Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz claimed victory in the April 4 Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Her opponent was Daniel Kelly, who is a former Justice for the state.  For the last 15 years, the state Supreme Court has had a conservative majority, but that’s changing with Protasiewicz’s win.

According to The Hill, Protasiewicz’s victory was important for the Democrats in the state as they are preparing for both the presidential election in the battleground state and an important Senate election for Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s (D) position.

The outlet reported that Miles Coleman, who works with the Sabato’s Crystal Ball, claimed that if he was Baldwin, he would be “feeling pretty good” with these results.

The recent results of the elections have also brought to the forefront the importance of many key issues, including abortion rights. Joe Zepecki, a Wisconsin-based Democratic strategist claimed that currently, Republicans have “their work cut out for them,” according to The Hill. He added that the Republicans continued to lose ground in suburban areas because they have an “abortion problem.” He further noted that this issue would continue to be central for the next few years.

While judicial elections do not often receive a lot of national attention, this particular race had over $45 million put in it, making it one of the most expensive state Supreme Court races in history.
