Tesla Issues Recall of Thousands of Vehicles

(ConservativeHub.com) – Tesla has issued another vehicle recall, adding to the millions of cars already recalled in 2022. A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing on November 1 showed a potential loss of power assist steering as the problem this time. The issue occurs when electric power cuts off if the vehicle hits potholes or other rough terrain on the roadway.

The recall covers the 2017-2021 Model S and Model X and impacts about 40,168 vehicles. The filing noted the issue only appears to occur in about 1% of the cars and originated when a software upgrade changed the steering’s electrical controls. The vast majority of people have also already installed the firmware update provided by the company to correct the problem.

Losing the power assist won’t prevent the driver from steering or handling the vehicle but might make it more challenging. Fortunately, the instrument panel alerts the driver should the steering assist stop working, and an audio alarm typically sounds. Loss of the power function at lower speeds presents some of the most dangerous issues. The risk of accidents increases when the feature ceases to function during vehicle operation.

Tesla has issued a variety of recalls this year. For example, back in May, the company recalled nearly 130,000 cars due to faulty infotainment systems. Tesla also issued a recall in September over a problem with automatic windows that impacted over 1,000,000 vehicles. According to a recent report from Forbes, the company has been facing concerns from regulators about how it approaches safety.
