(ConservativeHub.com) – On Tuesday, July 23, the Department of Justice revealed that a man in Las Vegas is facing 22 criminal counts connected to his alleged threats to kill federal judges and officials in Washington and New York.

The man in question, Spencer Gear, allegedly sent threatening emails and made threatening phone calls to federal employees and judges over the course of several months, starting last November. He is now being charged with 10 counts of threatening a federal official, and 12 counts of having transmitted communication that included threats to injure.

The court documents do not explicitly disclose which judges had been threatened. However, based on the initials given, reports say two of the judges appear to be associated with the legal cases against former President Donald Trump in New York. Those judges are Judge Lewis Kaplan and Judge Juan Merchan.

According to a report by Politico, Gear also threatened five Washington district judges.

In a statement, Attorney General Merrick Garland noted that those citizens who serve in public need to be able to complete their jobs without needing to fear for their lives. He added that the Department of Justice does not have any tolerance for acts of violence that target public servants. He noted that they would not stop at anything to make sure that justice is brought to those who are responsible.

Fear’s trial has been scheduled to take place on September 24. If he is found guilty, he could face up to 10 years imprisonment for each count of threatening a federal official, while the counts of transmitting a threat carry a maximum penalty of five years for each one.
