Marines Unveiling New WEAPON – It’s Official!
(ConservativeHub.com) – The US has the most powerful military in the world, but it’s essential for the various branches to keep up with advancements in technology to ensure it stays on top. With that in mind, the announcement from the Marines of the launch of a new sniper rifle makes sense. On May 5, the Marine Corps revealed it would introduce the Mk22 Mod 0 Advanced Sniper Rifle, also known as the MRAD, an acronym for multirole adaptive design.
First Lieutenant Isaac Lamberth explained the new firearm has an extended range and more magnification and flexibility than current options. It allows for customization to fit the mission. Lamberth noted the decision to change over to the Mk22 was a collaborative effort involving Marine Forces Special Operations Command, the Marine Corps Systems Command, and the US Army Special Operations Command.

Infantry Weapons Program Manager Nick Berger explained the new gun would replace the M40A6 rifle and the Mk13 Mod 7 rifle. The new inventory for snipers will include three options, but thanks to the versatility of the Mk22, the weapon options will remain on the cutting edge of what technology has to offer. The change will make it easier for operatives to focus on the capabilities of each rifle and modify the MRAD in the field.
The Marines expect to field the new weapon in 2023.
