( – Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, on Friday, claimed that President Joe Biden’s decision to have gas prices reduced last year was simply an attempt to help the Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections.

According to a report from Newsweek, Greene argued on the House Floor that since President Biden was elected to office, he has repeatedly abused his emergency power and even sold American oil to many of the country’s enemies, with China being the top buyer. Greene also claimed that outside of the sale of the oil, the reduction of the gas prices was clearly a move meant to help the Democrats remain in control following the 2022 election.

She continued to say that it was shameful to have a President who is abusing their emergency powers only because he wanted to guarantee that he would successfully win the election.

AAA reported that in October, the national average price of gas in the U.S. reached $3.84, following a summer of record-high gas prices, according to Newsweek. As of January 31, the national average was around $3.50, which is up about 40 cents from the end of 2022.

The gas price reduction in October came after Biden said that US would release millions of barrels of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This was the last release in a series that allowed 180 million barrels to enter the economy since March. This helped slightly reduce gas prices.

Greene also stated on Friday that Biden has not yet disclosed what his plan will be to have all of the barrels of oil replaced.
