(ConservativeHub.com) – Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, stated on April 8 that while Trump’s indictment was serving “justice and accountability,” it is “terrible” for the country, according to Newsweek. Trump is the first U.S. President, either former or current, to have been criminally charged in American history.

On April 4, Trump surrendered to a Manhattan courthouse where he was arraigned on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to the probe led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office. The investigation was focused on the alleged payment of $130,000 that had been made by Cohen to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election in exchange for her silence over their alleged affair. Daniels had claimed that she had had an affair with Trump in 2006, but Trump has repeatedly said that no such affair ever took place.

Trump has maintained that he did not do anything wrong throughout this probe. Throughout the investigation, he has taken to social media to urge his supporters to protest against the probe. During his initial appearance in court, Trump pleaded not guilty to all 34 counts. He is currently expected to go to court again this December.

Newsweek reported that during a recent segment of The Katie Phang Show, MSNBC host Katie Phang asked Cohen about his feelings relating to Trump’s arraignment.

Cohen stated that it was interesting because many would consider that he would “feel great” because there is “vindication.” He added that while he is “glad” there is accountability, it is still a “very sad day for America” as this is the first time that a U.S. President has been indicted. He added that this weakened the country in the eyes of foreigners.
